This is from a photo I took at least 15 years ago when were visiting my daughter who studied at Iowa State. Even though I wasn't doing any painting in those days I was always taking photos with the idea of using them for reference if I started up again later. I've been sort of afraid to paint this one, seemed like a technical challenge and I always have trouble with compositions that have multiple elements, I lose patience. This is one of the few paintings that I've done that ran into two sessions. I usually go back and do some minor tweaks, but this took me two fairly long (by my standards) sittings. I learned a lot about painting from this. If you look at it up close it looks really chunky, even kind of clumsy in the rendering, but from a distance I love the way it resolves. ⁠
